Dear Russian Minister of Culture,
The abundance of violence and sexual advertisements on Russian television has become a concern and has compelled me to write this letter. ... The difference was so great that I am following through with my impulse of writing you a letter.
Television has become a powerful source of information. ... The information, which we obtain from the television, has an enormous effect on us. One of the effects is the ‘presence’ of television announcers and characters. ... The television journalists do not imagine these horrors. ... All these television programs affect children even more than adults. ...
For me, as a mother, it is very important what my nine-year-old daughter sees on television. ... Our children hear and see repetitive assertions about fighting and violence as one of the means of regulating a conflict, cigarette and alcohol are necessary attribute of good fellows, and sexual relations do not lead to such consequences as diseases or pregnancy. ... Thus, when I came to America, I expected to see a doubled intensity of equivocal advertisements and violent scenes on local television. ... There are thought-out laws seriously limiting undisguised scenes on the television. ... Before a movie begins, parents receive a notice informing them about what kind of audience is supposed to watch this film. ... I was very surprised about the wealth of children’s and educational programs on American screens. I feel confident my daughter is getting quality information while viewing television. ... Our country should use the example of American rules for television.
