The description of how to choose and how to eat implies the author¡¯s great respect to persimmons. ... Here the child speaker takes an advantage of his knowledge of how to choose persimmons. ... The speaker treats persimmons as something with affection. In the cellar, he finds two persimmons wrapped in newspaper, forgotten and not yet ripe. He keeps these two persimmons on his bedroom windowsill instead of abandoning them. ... He gives the two persimmons to his father. These two persimmons represent the speaker¡¯s feelings. ... The paintings are so precise that the ¡°two persimmons, which are so full they want to drop from the cloth¡± (76). ... Some things never leave a person: / scent of the hair of one you love, / the texture of persimmons, / in your palm, the ripe weight¡± (83-88). ... By persisting in ¡°persimmons¡± and ¡°precision¡±, the author suggests that he loves his parents, appreciates their life style and their Chinese culture while today¡¯s Western culture lacks the valuable qualities of his parents.
