Reading affected all four of the authors and changed the direction of their lives. Pablo Neruda who wrote “The Word” was seduced by words themselves. Reading words on a page and the words in people’s eyes makes him see objects as meaningless without the word to name it. Reading gave Neruda something to look to just as some people look to God.
