New Beginning Fan Wu, 21, is a senior at the University of Houston this is an accomplish considering four years ago she did not speak English. Wu came to the United States from China were she was an only child. “Leaving home was hard but it was the best thing for me,” Wu said. “I came to the United States and didn’t know what to expect. I just wanted to experience freedom that I didn’t have at home,” Wu said. China is very oppressive and has strict policies regarding visitation to other countries.
