roman houses

After uncovering two very important, two very ancient Roman homes, I was able to distinguish very striking differences (and, occasionally, some similarities.) Let me begin with the more refined example of living quarters. In the Domus Romana, a house located outside the city bounds, a visitor could find lavish rooms - large, comfortable, and well decorated. Slaves were payed to do yard work (the garden was called the peristylum), as well as cook dinner (inside the culina), and tend to any other business their masters had in store for them.
