TV News Channels - Serious Business
After the spate of melodramatic soaps – tearjerkers based on the Indian household, it is now the turn of the seemingly earnest faces eager to report on goings at the earliest from different parts of the world. The sudden burgeoning of the channels in the twenty-four hour news segment, on the Indian television scenario reflects the shifting of the focus from fiction to facts. Also of much consequence is the Union governments’ decision of March 18, which limits the foreign equity in the news channels seeking to uplink from India to only 26 per cent. ... In the non-news category, foreign investment up to 74 per cent is permitted.
