The Balcony View Arriving at the Thammasat University Hotel around midnight was definitely not my idea of first class luxury. Neither was the little surprise waiting for Kari and I in our new home for four days. While lugging our awkward luggage through the main entrance we suddenly realized that we were the only ones around. Thinking to ourselves that it just must be because of the night. Being as exhausted as we were we didn’t quite comprehend that someone was screaming bloody murder about something being extremely gross. Running to the person was the second thing that Kari and I did because giving each other confused looks was the first. We soon realized that it was one of those girls from Oxbow High School flipping out over a tiny gecko that had scurried out of sight up the wall before we spotted him. It was the middle of the night and we were both not in the mood for too much commotion. We gradually made our way up to the eighth floor by the incredibly small and slow elevator. Reaching our room, finally, was a relief. I was ready to collapse right in the hallway were I was standing. I had a difficult time to keep my balance and place one foot in front of the other let alone keep my eyes open.
