In the past, various European and American leaders have tried to unite each of the American colonies together using different laws, principles, codes, and strategies. ... By 1760, the American colonies were closer to being united, but not fully there.
In 1664, when the four colonies, New Haven, Conneticut, Plymouth and Massachuttes sought to form an alliance, they took a step foward in making the colonies closer. The four colonies were to "enter into a firm and perpetual league of friendship and amity for offence and defense, mutal advice and succor upon all occasions both for preserving and propagating the truth and liberties of the Gospel and for their own mututal safety and welfare (New England Confederation).
