I started American History without much knowledge of our history. I was confused on all the events, facts, and the reasoning behind the Civil War. My trip to the Atlanta History Center cleared up much of my confusion. When I first walked into the Civil War exhibit, I came to an open room filled with different soldiers clothing and life size portraits of people from the Civil War era. One of the pictures that stuck in my head was that of a Confederate officer with his slave standing next to him. The article next to the photograph stated that this particular slave had actually carried his owner all the way back home after he was injured. It also stated that most slaves accompanied their owners throughout the war. There were several quotes above the pictures from different soldiers stating their allegiance to their side. As I made my way on into the next rooms, I saw several different artifacts. There was a case with medical supplies, such as, an amputation kit and medicine chest. There were eating utensils and special carrying cases for them. There were also different bags that the soldiers carried.
