age of metternich

The Age of Metternich During the Latin American revolutions from 1810-1823, Spain was involved in the Napoleanic wars. Th Spanish colonies of Latin America declared their independence, adopted democratic constitutions, and established republican governments. After that the Latin Americans repulsed Spanish efforts to regain control. The best colonial leaders of this time were Jose de San Martin, Bernardo O’ Higgins, and Simon Bolivar, with the nickname of “George Washington of South America.” In 1823 Latin Americans heard rumors of a plan by reactionary European nations to reconquer the Latin American states for Spain.
