At that time Frank McCourt, who tells the story, is 5 years old. Frank and his family’s moving to Ireland from America, because the father can’t get a job over there. They’re very poor and they have to provide their family. In Ireland they live in a very poor town, named Limerick. The father can’t get a job there neither and his an alcoholic, so it’s very hard for the family.
