Alexander The Great
After Alexander the Great died in 323 B.C. a time known as the Hellenistic Era emerged. The Hellenistic Era was an era that people were trying new things and looking for new ways to find pleasure. One of the ways people found pleasure was from bathing. Unlike the way our present society views bathing, it was not seen for cleaning of ones self, rather the baths to the Roman culture were much like our beaches are to today’s society. An example would be that people in our culture go to the beaches to unwind, relax, and enjoy themselves, back then people would go to lavish settings that were provided by the authorities, the emperor, or the city notables. People would pay a small fee to enjoy these settings and people would be separated into there own area, which was determined by sex. Some of the settings that the Roman people would go to had more then just bathing facilities, there were also beautiful gardens and fields for sports and games.
