There were many factors which induced the Spanish American War, including yellow journalism, the sinking of the USS Maine, and US business interest in Cuba. No one event is to blame, but rather the Spanish American War was brought about by a many different factors. While the influence of Theodore Roosevelt and other influential and empirically minded leaders may have helped to persuade President McKinley’s decision to go to war with Spain, the previous factors must be considered also as reasons for the Spanish American War.
