In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country, Alan Paton wrote that “It is fear that rules this land”. This reflects lives of South Africans not only in the novel, but also in reality. This reality is known as apartheid, a true historical incident, whose scars till today have not healed. Bradley, Catherine wrote in “The End of Apartheid”, “The Constitution of the South African Republic stated: There shall be no equality in state or church between white and black”. (1998) This quote describes apartheid to perfection. During Apartheid, blacks were known as “kaffir”, equivalent of niggers while whites were called masters. Black students were given education inferior education, better known as slave education and one of the most ridiculous ideas of apartheid was that God had created whites to be more superior than blacks.
