As an African American my history always included the struggles that my ancestors faced like the peaceful marches and sit-ins that were organized in 1965. Since the bombing attack on September 11 my history grew to include this tragedy also. My history never really included the fight against Hitler and the Nazis that took place in 1945. ... After starting this assignment I developed a new understanding of what was really “my” history and how things of the past allow me to attend college and sit in any seat that I would like. ... I searched the history book to find something in it that would be remotely close to what happened on Sept 11 and what I found is that Sept. 11 is my history. ... I remember how every American just wanted it to look like it never happened even if our minds and hearts would not let us forget. A couple of days after the tragedy newly elected President Bush promised that New York City would rebuild and he stood by this promise to make one of the most infamous days in history seem like a distant past. ... ” The very article that I found was also mentioned in our textbook because of the great hatred that Alabama and its Governor felt about segregation and the equality of African Americans. ... In 1964 African Americans won the battle with the passing of the Civil Rights Act but the war was far from over. ... ” The army was said to be in extreme need of a minimum of 18,500 nurses to help take care of casualties that reached American hospitals at the rate 1600 per day. ...
In the end I learned that my history was really more that just Black History and the struggles that African Americans faced.
