1. Christopher Columbus a son of a weaver was a dreamer. His ambitions to attempt a voyage to Asia were shaped by his reading and his extensive experience as a mariner. The main purpose of course was to acquire wealth, fame and power. No individual had enough resources to finance such a voyage, so Christopher Columbus sought patronage for his ambitious plan from Spanish monarchs Isabel and Fernando. By sponsoring Columbus, the Spanish government envisioned a western route to Asia and the possibility of finding new sources of gold. 2. Spanish conquistadors such as Columbus and Cortez did not share a positive relation with Native Americans. They accepted gifts from the Natives without showing appreciation and started stealing and looting when gifts stopped coming in. Native American accounts say that Spanish conquerors attacked and beheaded Natives for no-good reason.
