Introduction
The Civil War is known for many things but the one thing that everyone overlooks when going back to the Civil War is its music. Civil War music can be divided broadly into three categories: Military (marches, quicksteps, patriotic airs, dance (polkas, waltzes, schottisches, and gallops) and popular (sentimental ballads, operatic airs). Music had a folk sound to it if it was not for any purpose. ... There were many songs sung in the Civil War and some were so popular that we still sing them today.
