In 1942, Columbus became the first documented European to enter the Americas. Although most noted for discovering the land and bringing the riches back to Spain, Columbus’s real intentions and actions differ greatly from most people’s perception of them. ... The National Council of Churches are correct in saying that Columbus Day should be a day “of repentance and reflection” rather then of celebration. From studying history, it is clear that, contrary to common belief, Christopher Columbus was a villain who does not deserve a holiday.
Ever year on Columbus Day, we celebrate the courage and triumph displayed by Columbus in his discovering of the New World.
