charge of the light birgade

... The poem “Charge of the Light

Brigade” written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson is a perfect example of people being

blinded by their pride for their county. To show this in his poem Tennyson uses

an abundance of different poetic devices such as repetition, allusion and

personification to color a life like picture of the charge. ... Tennyson uses repetition in

the first stanza as he repeats the phrase “half a league” three times to show the

difficulty the small British army finds as they try and charge the line of artillery

weapons but do not back down because their country told them to do something,

and because of their pride they don’t think twice about doing it. ... This may seem

cowardly to some but you need to know the facts of the charge and how a

cavalry works.
