A)
The reference to ethis upsetting documentf is the conditions of the mines. Lord Ashley- also known as lord Shaftsbury- who investigated the conditions of the mines and the miners wrote this source. ... I think that he is angry because the government didnft pass the act because the system was bad but because the miners were subjected to terrible working conditions and the sexual indecency had shocked the nation. ... He doesnft believe that the government passed the act because the people were suffering from terrible working conditions and long hard hours but because of the indecency. ... Source D states that the eterriblef conditions had never been reported before and the government were being slightly hypocritical since they never took interest in the social welfare of the mining communities. He also adds that the miners should have allocated someone to speak out for them if the conditions had been so bad, yet the conditions were only realized when someone decided to investigate the mining communities. ... This is because Source B admits that there could have been foul play in the conditions of the mines yet the government had made it out to be bigger than it was or passed the act to look better to the people. Source D on the other hand says that the government had never been interested before, no one had seemed to care, any reports about the conditions of mines had previously been ignored and therefore he also believes that the government had blown the situation out of proportion and made it sound worse in order to pass the act.
