The Cuban revolution was much more than a political change in the form of government. The revolution initiated a vast economic and social transformation, as well as the overthrow of the corrupt General Fulgencio Batista from power. Revolutions usually follow a rupture in the nations events, are directed by a hero, have an ideology or belief system and use of symbols or tools to get its point across to people. A revolution can be simply defined as ‘change’. When a country undergoes a revolution, its ideals that it once believed in are being modified. The Cuban revolution adheres to all of these so called ‘guidelines to revolution’, and showed an arguably good or bad change to the fete of the Cuban Government, Cuban Nation and Cuban People.

The Cuban revolution was very important for the life of Cuba. ... This enabled the Cuban Republic to be founded in 1909. In the 1930’s Cuban leader Ramon Grau San Martin sanctioned legislation that reduced the influence of the US Government over the Cuban economy. In retaliation to this unprecedented legislation the US supported the Cuban Military officer Fulgencio Batista, who overthrew the Grau government in 1934.

The resistance of Batista’s government came at first from university students and spread to include a vast variety of Cuban Society. “In the time Batista was in power, the Cuban economy was flourishing. ... When being sentenced, Fidel saw this as a chance to spread the word of the revolution and speak in front of many who has power and influence. During his lengthy 2 hour speech, Fidel wowed the court with his words and this speech bore the most recognized quotation of the Cuban Revolution.
