DBQ Alien and Sedition Acts

The debate over the Alien and Sedition act was, in part a result of past and current conflicts between the Federalist and Republicans. When the Federalists were establishing the Alien and Sedition acts, they were showing, in part, their desire for power, just as Hamilton had tried to accomplish in his economic plan. ... These points come together to show there were more controversial issues in question that led to the strife between factions over the Alien and Sedition Acts

Before the Alien and Sedition Acts were even considered, Washington felt that “there was no need for encouragement” of these immigrants. ...
