The founder of Eu Yan Sang, Mr Eu Kong first founded Eu Yan Sang in Gopeng, a tin mining town in Perak, Malaysia in July 1879, selling Chinese herbs and medicines to the mining townsfolk. The business of Eu Yan Sang was then passed down from Mr Eu Kong to his son, Mr Eu Tong Sen. Mr Eu Tong Sen was able to quickly expand the TCM business to the other parts of Malaysia, and to Singapore, Hong Kong and China.
Following the demise of Mr Eu Tong Sen, the ownership of the TCM business was eventually divided among different members of the Eu family.
