... African Slavery would allow plantation owners to produce more, therefore make more money in trades. ... Slavery had a large impact on the economic and political movements worldwide, although the impact can be seen most prevalent in the emerging nation of America. African slavery proved to have an enormous affect on the American economy and in turn helped to shape American politics. ... In the south, “cotton ruled from 1815 to 1861, and the principle bulwark of his throne was slavery. ... ” (Houston, 1) While the south continued to profit through large plantation production, mainly possible because of slavery, the North continued to move forward in the industrial age. ... Due to these regional and economic differences, slavery also aided to the shaping of politics in America. ... The Northern and Southern states had different economies and different economic interests therefore had different philosophies when it came to rewriting the constitution. ... The conflicts over slavery between the north and the south however did not end there. ... As the expansion into the Western territories grew, so did the tensions regarding slavery. Slave states were against free states being admitted into the union for fear that representation would become unequal and compromising the future of slavery. ... ’ The worst, inasmuch as it is a present victory for slavery.” (history, p259) This bill caused the first anti-slavery party to form.
