Upper and middle-class, native-born, Anglo-Protestant men put forth myths on gender, race and power issues in the early 20th century to secure and prove their manhood. African Americans tried in several different ways to challenge these myths but a small portion of African American slaves who are obedient to their white master, conform. The upper and middle-class, native-born, Anglo-Protestant men created myths that they are the only group of people who are civilized and competent to hold positions in society, but African Americans while mostly challenged to these believe, do conform in a smaller scale.
