Through careful analysis of these questions that past historians may have neglected, the author attempts to find out the truth about the way in which the Indians were important factors in the fur trade. ... He says that “it is my opinion that many new insights into Indian history can be obtained if we abandon the retrospective, technological-determinist outlook and devote more attention to an examination of Indian involvement in the fur trade in the context of contemporary conditions.
