Joining the Gabriel’s conspiracy was a tough choice for many slaves. To join the conspiracy meant great danger, as it was a capital crime under the Virginian slave law. (100) Many of the slaves wanted to wait until they could be assured that the conspiracy had a chance to be successful before they themselves would join it.
