Together on this day, the 25th April 1932 as you all no we are here, to honour and remember the brave soldiers who took part in the Gallipoli Campaign. Being a soldier of this war myself I feel it my duty to speak to you today on behalf of the great soldiers of our country who unfortunately cannot.
I strongly feel that Australia should remember Anzac Day as it is a huge fraction of Australian history and many men lost their lives for our countries benefit. It would be extremely selfish for the people of Australia not to remember this and would show a major sign of disrespect towards our brave Australian soldiers.
The aim of the Gallipoli campaign was to secure the Dardanelles, in which Great Britain along with its allies France, Russia, Australia and New Zealand tried to force open the narrow strip of water that separated Europe from Asia Minor. ...
It was then, after the failure of the Naval attempt to take the Dardanelles, that it was decided to land us ground troops at the tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula, secure the central heights, and destroy the Turkish batteries, thus opening a way for the Navy to proceed up to Constantinople.
