History and Historians In the book History and Historians, Mark T. Gilderhus attempts to explain Western historical thinking from ancient times to today. He introduces the main problems and issues in historiography, the history of history, by discussing the aims and purposes as well as the beginning of historical consciousness through the modern age. He discusses problems and issues in the philosophy of history by analyzing the speculative approach. The main problems and issues in historical methodology are analyzed by looking at the analytical approach toward history. Gilderhus addresses the issues and problems of historiography by stating the purpose of history and beginnings of historical consciousness all the way to the modern age. He points out that history was not always a concern of humans.
