Harappa and the Indus Valley Harappa Walk From looking at the information from this site and other sites found on http://www.harappa.com/har/har0.html , I concluded that there had to be many farmers. One reason is that the cities were by a major river, and there was flooding every year. This provided the land with fertile soil. It also gave the opportunity for irrigation. The rising population was due to the ability to produce enough food. Many granaries have been found in the area of old Harappa. These granaries were divided into many rooms. Along with the granaries, many circular platforms have been found that are thought to be the place where the people thrashed the grain. According to http://www.rcsd.k12.ca.us, some of the crops that the people grew were barley, peas, melons, wheat, dates, and rice.
