Islamic Power in Hadith Traditions
Every ancient religious culture that has been powerful enough to push through to the present day seems to have had some from of religious oral tradition that spoke to the common people about proper religious life. ... In the Islamic faith these traditions are known as the Hadith, and they are some of the most important teachings of Islam to its people. These Islamic traditions are stories that teach and clarify moral lessons that are presented in great complexity in the Quran. The stories have been gathered from thousands of people with claims that Muhammad spoke to them about proper Islamic behavior. Due to the great complexity of the Quran and illiteracy of Middle Eastern people, the understandable and clarifying hadith traditions play one of the strongest roles in the expansion and greatness of early Islamic society.
The actual meaning of hadith is the, “…sayings of the Prophet”1. ... The Quran’s first readers and commentators were the reason that hadith became so important. ... As Lapidis justifies in his writings, ”Everything Muhammad said and did was of prime religious importance because his deeds and actions were authoritative examples of how a proper Muslim life was to be led.
