Historical Figure Essay The United States of America is our home. And it is important to know about the people who impacted our history. So in this essay you will find information on some of the significant people in our history from the 1700’s to the 1800’s. It will cover such subjects as the American Revolution, the Westward Movement, the Women’s Movement Abolitionist Movement, and the Civil War. There were many people involved in the Revolutionary war, such as King George, Benedict Arnold, Alexander Hamilton, Marquis de Lafayette, Thomas Paine, George Washington, and Paul Revere. The American Revolution was a big part of history; it’s how we got our independence from England, and King George the third. He was the King of England during the Revolutionary war, 1776 to 1783. His poor judgment and unfair taxing on the colonists caused the war itself. One person, who is famous for being in the war, is also famous for being the biggest traitor to the Americans, Benedict Arnold. Now, he was on the United States side, when in 1780 he agreed to surrender Fort West Point to the British in exchange for a royal commission in the British army and an amount of money. That wasn’t the only thing that happened in 1780, that same year, Alexander Hamilton became General Washington’s right hand man. Also in 1780, he formed a plan for a strong central government to replace the weak one from the Confederacy. Another man who was part of the American Revolution was Marquis de Lafayette. He fought in the war, and helped the colonists free themselves from King George of England. In 1781 he fought in the battle of Yorktown. Another person in the involved in the revolutionary war is Thomas Paine.
