Florida Memorial College
Florida Memorial College is a historically black college that has its roots deep in the Baptist church. The school originally started from two schools one in Live Oak, FL named the Florida Baptist Institute, which was founded in 1879, the other was located in Jacksonville, FL named the Florida Baptist Academy, which was founded in1892.in 1941 the schools merged to form the Florida normal and industrial memorial institute and moved to St. ... When the new school opened it was a two-year technical institute, four years after the school opened in 1945 it became an accredited four –year college. ... Florida Memorial College is the only HBCU located in the southern region of Florida, it also one of the oldest academic institutions in the state.
