Martin Luther: Where: Born in German Saxony in 1483 What and When: Martin Luther was the leader of the Protestant Reformation during the early 1500s. Compass and astrolabe: Where and When: In 1525, the compass and astrolabe were the only reliable navigational instruments for use in uncharted waters. What: The astrolabe was used to determine latitude by measuring the angle between the horizon and Polaris, also called the North Star, the Pole Star, or Stella Maris (Star of the Sea). And Compass was used to get the sense of what direction they were traveling in. Why Significant: The use of Compass and Astrolabe made it possible for the navigators to "Explore" easily. Peace at Augsburg: On September 25, 1555 and it was held in Augsburg (WHEN AND WHERE).
