Iraqamerica: How Iraq’s culture has affected America Mesopotamia, Babylon, Iraq, all connected? Babylon Empire still is having influence thousands of years later here in America? It seems almost impossible but it is clear that their culture is still affecting us to this day. Religion, food, and even ways of life were brought here to America. Our culture was and is continually being affected by Iraq’s history and future. Mesopotamia began with Gods, kings, rulers, and early inhabitance with ongoing desires to create. The first cities were built and a new culture began. Mesopotamia lies between two rivers, hence the name. The Tigris and Euphrates hold the Holy Land that today is known as Iraq. This is believed by some to be the Biblical “Garden of Eden”. Our culture today is full of religions that study the holy text of the Bible, which talks much about the infamous “Garden of Eden”. Ancient Mesopotamia is full of old stories and tales. One of which is very similar to the story of “Noah and the great flood.” The story tells about a human figure named Gilgamesh who goes through a timeless journey and in the process encounters many different places and people. “The epic of Gilgamesh” is full of similarities to that of Noah and the Ark. As one can see from just the smallest piece of this epic: Hear, O reed house!
