Geography Country Expert Memo Israel The country of Israel has a great deal of history in its shadows; throughout this paper I will give you an overview of the history and geography of the country. Upon completion of this paper I hope to give you some insight on the general location, governmental history, culture, ethnicity, demographics, physiographic, transportation and communication, and finally to tie it all together by informing you of the internal conflicts and issues troubling Israel today. Relative Location The location of Israel is a major problem for the Jewish population simply because Israel lies at the heart of the Arab World. Israel is located in the Middle East, and the Mediterranean Sea is on its border. ... Governmental History The State of Israel uses a Parliamentary Democracy consisting of legislative, executive, and judicial branches as its form of Government. Israel proclaimed independence on May 14, 1948 from the League of Nations mandate under British administration. ... Britain, which had ruled Palestine since 1920, withdrew its soldiers, but this was not the end of war for Israel, really it was far from it. The leader of Israel today is President Moshe Katsav he was elected July 31, 2000 for a five year term. ... This war over the territory of Israel has been reoccurring until present day. Culture The state of Israel is difficult to pin a culture on. Israel houses three of the major world religions; and all three of them consider Israel their Holy land. ... The focus on Israel is not what the citizens are like; it is about the wars and all the conflicts that have haunted the state for many years. I know for sure that Israel is a place of worship and of holiness, but for such a religious state there is an insane amount of hatred. ... The cultural focus of Israel is religion, they are very devoted to their belief structure and they live their lives by the words spoken in the Bible. ... The official language of Israel is Hebrew, and Arabic is used officially for the Arab minority. ... Ethnicity The land of Israel is shared by a few ethnic groups. |
