... Machiavelli believed a prince should be concerned only with power, while Jefferson believed that democracy is all about the people themselves and that everyone is equal. Niccolo Machiavelli was an aristocrat who wrote The Prince in 1513 to explain what he thought to be the way a prince should rule. Jefferson wrote “The Declaration of Independence” in 1776 to express his feeling about the way he wanted the world and democracy to be. Machiavellian and Jefferson leadership are completely opposite of each other.
It is not possible to have a Machiavellian-type leadership in a democracy like the United States because Machiavelli believed that the ruler should be the sole authority determining every aspect of the people and he should put in effect a policy that would only serve his best interests. ...
