The project has allowed me think beyond my notions of Mexican-American history as being remote from my history. This assignment has made me regard as Mexican-American history as something that is more concrete and factual and that can be related to my past. ... I believe that through this task I will not only have a better understanding of my past but of Mexican-American history in Chicago.
My interviewee was Hermelinda Arias and she migrated to Chicago in the 1970’s. The idea behind the interview was to understand and focus on the community were she has spent her life while also observing changes in Mexican communities at that period to the present.
