Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince

Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince

In The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli offers a monarchy ruler advice intended to keep that ruler in power. In order to achieve this ordeal, Machiavelli proposed policies that would discourage the people from gathering to protest and instead used this energy to fuel the private needs of the ruler. By eliminating mass political activism, Machiavelli persuades the monarch that a ruler could only keep his power by the judicious use of violence, by respecting private property and the traditions of his subjects, and by promoting prosperity for the country.
Furthermore, Machiavelli believed that political life could not be governed by a single set of moral or religious principles that were absolute. ... While these acts could not be defended in private life, in order for the prince to rule in the “Machiavellian” way, these acts could and would be accepted.
Serving as a practical guide for ruling, The Prince was written by Machiavelli with the goal of the book evident from the beginning with the dedication to Lorenzo de Medici, the ruler of Florence. In The Prince, Machiavelli is concerned strictly with autocratic regimes, rather than republican regimes. ...
In the core of the book, Machiavelli offers practical advice on a variety of matters, including the advantages and disadvantages of various routes to power, how to acquire and hold new states, how to deal with internal turmoil, how to make alliances, and how to maintain a strong army.
