Problems Facing Charles V

Charles V faced opposition politically from other European states that were attempting to uphold the balance of power in Europe as well as the League of Schmalkald within the Holy Roman Empire. He also faced social problems dealing with Lutheranism being taken out of context; however, most of the social problems he dealt with were strongly tied to the religious strife caused by the Protestant Reformation, which was by far the largest of Charles V’s problems. Charles V faced political opposition from European states trying to stop a universal monarch and social and religious problems that concerned Protestantism and Catholicism during his reign.
After Spain, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, and parts of Italy came under the control of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, other European states fought against him to prevent a universal monarch and preserve their own autonomy.
