Reconciliation Australia
One of the most important issues facing modern Australia at the close of the twentieth century was the process of reconciliation with indigenous Australians. Reconciliation has been a major controversial issue in recent years. It has affected indigenous Aborigines and non-indigenous people throughout Australia. However, firstly, what is meant by ˇ§reconciliationˇ¨ and secondly, has it been achieved?
Reconciliation according to the dictionary means a process of bringing people or groups together after a period of conflict or difference. ... According to the vision statement formulated by the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, ˇ§Reconciliationˇ¨ is a united Australia which respects this land of ours; values the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage; and provides justice and equity for all. For the indigenous people of Australia reconciliation covers a huge area. Reconciliation is about bringing harmony, settling and overcoming differences, finding agreement and settling quarrels.
