Samuel Adams

Samuel Adams (1722-1803) was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on the 27th of September 1722. He was a second cousin to John Adams. Samuel’s father was a wealthy and prominent citizen of Boston, who took an active part in the politics of the town. ...
Adams graduated from Harvard College in 1740 at the age of 18. ... Samuel became the manager of a malt-house and failed due to his attention to politics. ... Adams was even nicknamed “The Man of the Town Meeting.”
In 1748 Samuel Adams began to take an important part in the affairs of the town, and became a leader in the debates of a political club, which he was largely instrumental in organizing. The club’s weekly publication, the “Public Advertiser” was where Adams began publishing many of his articles.
From 1756 to 1764 Adams became one of the town’s tax collectors but he was unsuccessful in doing this also.
