Spanish Armada When Phillip the II sent a enormous and great fleet (also known as a armada) against England in the year 1588. Without King Phillip II not noticing that he accidentally formed part of a larger “enterprise”: they were intended to join and assist an invasion force form Flanders led by duke of Parma. The Fleet that left La Coruna In mid July was under the current command of the duke of Medina-Sidonia (1550-1619). The fleet consisted of more then 130 vessels, nearly 20,000 soldiers, and more then 10,000 sailors- It was supposable to be the best and the largest ever seen in the water, of Northern Europe.
