The “hands off” policy of salutary neglect used by the British prior to 1750 was a great factor in the forming of American society. ... The salutary neglect provided by the British greatly altered legislation, commerce, and religion.
While the British adapted salutary neglect it influenced the new world to organize itself in a decent manner. American legislation began to appear early but was first noticed with the House of Burgesses in the colony of Virginia.
