History Since gaining its independence in 1821, Nicaragua has been through a civil war, poverty, and natural disasters. Because it is such a poor country, there have been many efforts to revitalize it. During the 1990’s Nicaragua has made many attempts to rebuild its economy. This was until a horrific turn brought disaster to the country. In 1998 Hurricane Mitch struck the country hard. Fortunately, the people of Nicaragua have worked hard to maintain the culture, landmarks, and culture that they have been use to all of their lives. People The people of Nicaragua are in many ways like the people of the United States. ... They are similar to Americans because in some parts of the country they wear clothing much like ours today. ... Population/Life Expectancy There are 4,918,393 people living in Nicaragua today. ... This is similar to our statistics in the sense that the females have a longer lifespan in our country as well. For every household there are an average of three children, much like the families that we hear about and see in our country today. The country itself is extremely poor, and it relies on international aid from other countries because of Nicaragua’s low income, huge external debt, and banking crisis. This situation goes for the whole country, although some parts are better than others. ... The language is primarily Spanish, but English is spoken on the Atlantic Coast. ... The people of Nicaragua are the same as the people here. ... In poor countries, such as Nicaragua, the people do not have it as easy as Americans do here. ... Because of the economic status of the country, many people from Nicaragua are smart in the area of being able to rely on themselves. |
