The French Revolution What lead to the French Revolution? It all started when King Louis XIV had many wars, which put France in debt. Then came King Louis XV he kept borrowing from the bankers, which continued to increase the financial crisis of France. King Louis XVI inherited France during the financial problems and he wanted to get them out of debt. He was told by a fellow man that the only way to do this was to tax the 1st and 2nd estates and so he called an assembly of the three estates to get their votes.
