In 1830 Mexico stopped letting Americans move into Texas, because they feared that the Americans wanted to make Texas part of the United States. ... After all this Texans felt that the time had come for them to win their independence, and they did. ... On March 2, 1836 Texans set up a new nation called the Republic of Texas.
