During the Tang Dynasty, China was a world power and constantly expanding and at war. While the Tang rulers waged war against its neighbors, the empire expanded both westward and northward. ... Like as described in the poem, the Tang rulers were always warring against its neighbors to acquire new territories. ... In conclusion, many of the hardships the people were experiencing in the poem were directly related to the historical context of the Tang Dynasty.
