I am Annie Besant. I am writing to tell you about the Matchgirls, and hopefully give you a few ideas for your protest to help you succeed. The girls worked in a factory making and selling matches. They did not like the conditions that they had to work in, they thought that there should not be any white slavery in the UK, and that they should have more pay. They had to work in a cramped factory with no ventilation, because the company had built another storey, and demolished the ventilation system.
