Welcome to GEN101, Skills for Lifelong Learning. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and working with you in this course as we refresh ourselves with the professional skills that may have been neglected or forgotten along the way and perhaps discover some new approaches or ideas for enhancing our skills. My name is Bob Ross and unless you have a need to be more formal, you may refer to me as Bob during the course of the next 5 weeks. Let me introduce myself: Following separation from the US Navy as a Seabee, I attended college for the next ten years completing my BS in Industrial Management and an MBA starting at UC Berkeley and ending at California State University at San Jose. During this period I worked full time as a mechanical and structural engineer at Job shops and Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. while struggling to raise and nurture 7 lovely children. While at Lockheed, I received an award for a publication in the annual reliability symposium proceedings entitled: “Production Reliability Evaluation Program”. This was an Air Force sponsored program for ensuring the integrity of key components of the Standard Agena Satellite vehicle, the “work horse” for AF satellites.
